NDE

There are many stories of Near Death Experience (NDE), often describing a light at the end of the tunnel. While travelling in Thailand, I met a man who told me of an experience he had while undergoing surgery, perhaps the look of me provoked. During an operation he felt cold, saw a light and was drawn toward it for warmth. He then heard the nurse say, “we’ve lost him.” Another voice said “you must go back.” He felt cold again, but survived the operation. Personal stories like his are often dismissed as hallucinations, yet scientific publications are beginning to confront these experiences, he was adamant. They tell me my heart stopped several times early.

National Geographic (April 2016) published an article titled Crossing Over, noting cases in which patients declared clinically dead later recovered. One case described a man who had no signs of life for over ninety minutes, yet later left hospital alive and well. There are also stories of people emerging from coma fluent in a previously unknown foreign language. That happened to me, although I did know a little German before. I became fluent in German, losing the ability to speak English. After I left hospital I had to relearn English, it came back quickly enough. The German soon went away.

NDE

Having been in coma for three months, I share the below video on Near Death Experience. I came out of coma speaking fluent German, did I have an NDE? The language phenomenon is called Foreign Accent Syndrome, or Xenoglossy by medicine. There are many reported cases.

The video below explores deathbed awareness. People who have been non-responsive in hospital suddenly wake with incredible clarity. Brains that haven’t worked for some time suddenly do, and exceptionally well. It also describes children with impossible memories. Kids who can describe distant places and historical events, with remarkable accuracy. The video suggests consciousness is not a product of the brain.

  1. I don’t know why I thought of this when I read your post. Maybe your talk of religious belief versus scientific belief which is mentioned half way through in the video. You might like it, it might be slightly relevant.
